# Glossary

> The app's own words

Terms as Readiness Record uses them today. An organisation can rename most of these for itself — see [Configuration](/sops/11-configuration) — this list uses the platform's own defaults.

| Term                       | Meaning                                                                                                                                                     |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Portfolio**              | Every assessment you can see, grouped by workspace.                                                                                                         |
| **Workspace**              | A group of assessments about one programme, project or thing being assessed (e.g. "HS2 Phase One").                                                         |
| **Assessment**             | One document set tested against one Assessment Set. The atomic unit of work; has its own code (e.g. CA-31).                                                 |
| **Assessment Set**         | A framework: its criteria, scoring scale and sections (e.g. IPA Gateway Assessment).                                                                        |
| **Pack**                   | A signed-off, versioned instance of a set, held in the Pack library.                                                                                        |
| **Criterion**              | A single thing being tested (e.g. "Commercial Value for Money"), identified by a code such as G3-4.1.                                                       |
| **Evidence requirement**   | A specific thing a criterion checks for. A criterion can have several.                                                                                      |
| **Finding**                | The engine's proposed rating and rationale for a criterion or requirement, on a given run.                                                                  |
| **Decision**               | What a reviewer does with a finding: Accept, Challenge, or Query.                                                                                           |
| **Gap**                    | An evidence requirement that isn't yet met — Not found or Partial.                                                                                          |
| **Action**                 | A tracked remediation task raised from a gap or a finding, with an owner and a due date.                                                                    |
| **Obligation**             | A standing commitment tracked alongside Actions but distinct from one-off remediation work.                                                                 |
| **Run**                    | One pass of the assessment engine over the documents in scope.                                                                                              |
| **Position**               | The overall rating for an assessment: Ready, Conditional, or Not ready.                                                                                     |
| **Record**                 | The signed, frozen output of a run — one version per sign-off.                                                                                              |
| **Approval record**        | The full detail of a signed record: what was frozen, depth of review, and who signed it.                                                                    |
| **Depth**                  | How much of an assessment was reviewed — at criterion level, at assessment level, or not stated. Measures how much was read, not how good the decision was. |
| **Standard / Extended**    | The two depths a run can be set to. Extended is roughly 4× the cost of Standard, and is for high-stakes assessments.                                        |
| **Showstopper / Critical** | Criticality tags on a criterion. A Red criterion carrying one of these can cap the whole position below the top rank, regardless of the overall arithmetic. |
| **Progress**               | Whether an assessment is on track, measured as completeness and quality against target, relative to its submission date.                                    |
| **Submission date**        | The date an assessment is working towards. Drives the Progress view.                                                                                        |
| **Ask**                    | The conversational question-and-answer panel, scoped to a workspace, a document, or a single criterion.                                                     |
| **Review queue**           | Findings across all your assessments that are waiting on a decision.                                                                                        |
